Sarah Mackay is an associate artist liaison at Gagosian, New York. As a crucial intermediary between artists and various stakeholders, she facilitates effective communication, collaboration, and the execution of exhibitions and projects. Previously, Sarah was the assistant curator of works on paper at the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, which oversees the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s (FAMSF) collection of works on paper; more than 90,000 items including prints, drawings, photographs, and artist’s books. She also served as co-Chair of FAMSF’s IDEA committee, an employee network dedicated to DEIA initiatives.
Prior to the Museums, Sarah worked at at Christie’s New York in numerous specialist departments including Luxury (wine and handbags), Latin American Paintings, Old Master Paintings, Impressionist and Modern Art, and Post-War and Contemporary Art. At Christie’s, she also served as director of programming for the Corporate Social Responsibility and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion groups in 2021.
Before joining the art world, Sarah assisted VIP Chanel stylist Alla Prokopov at Bergdorf Goodman, specialising in luxury styling and sales with an emphasis on handbags.
She earned an MA with high distinction in art history from The Courtauld Institute of Art (London), and a BA in art history from New York University.
Sarah currently spends time between San Francisco and New York with her partner Jacob and their regal cat Charles.
